Our guided trips are designed for those anglers wanting to fly-fish lakes, ponds and reservoirs.
Fly-fishing stillwaters can
be both fun and relaxing. Edmonton's local trout lakes offer anglers
close-to-home convenience and exceptional opportunities when rivers are
off-color or high due to spring runoff or foul weather. Our mission is
to introduce new fly-anglers, fly-fishermen from out of town, or
anglers new to the Edmonton
area, to the numerous local trout lakes at an affordable price. New
float tube or pontoon boat owners or someone wishing to try fishing
before making a tube or boat purchase are also more than welcome to
book a guided trip. Our intentions are not to wine and dine you, but to
help you understand where fish are feeding, what flies to use and the
different methods used to fish them but most importantly; to show you a
good time. Fly-fishing
our local trout lakes can produce huge trout and anglers booking a trip
can expect good insect activity all day, usually resulting in a great
time on the water. Our local lakes are some of the most fertile lakes
in Canada. The muddy bottoms of our lakes make superb habitat for most stillwater aquatic life like chironomids,
scuds and leeches.
Currently, we offer trips to several local trout lakes with most of our guided trips only
30 minutes from Edmonton. We also offer several other fly-fishing opportunities not listed on our Rates & Services page including:

If you are interested in any of these other opportunities, please let us know.
Alberta Stillwaters.com is a unique venture for Mike Monteith.
Mike had owned Santannas Night Club for over 15 years but his true
passion has always been fly-fishing. In 2002, Mike started up his stillwater guiding business as a small p/t seasonal venture and today stays busy teaching clients of all ages the secrets of stillwater fly-fishing.

Mike (A.K.A. Doc) spent some time
as the manager of the north side Fishin' Hole in Edmonton and is
well known throughout Alberta and western Canada for his informative
web site "Fly Fishing Edmonton" as well as being a moderator for two of Alberta's most visited information sites, the "Alberta Fly Fishing Forum" and "The Fishin' Alberta Message Board". Mike also received his graduation certificate as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) in the summer of 2007. He's been successfully fishing Edmonton's pothole lakes for 27 years and will continue
to fish them for many years to come. Alberta Stillwaters.com respects and understands that you may want to keep a few fish according
to your rights under the Alberta Fish & Wildlife possession
limits but in the same breath, we would like to teach anglers the
importance of catch & release fishing through practice.
