What We Offer

Stillwater Fly Fishing School

If you are new to fly fishing, there are several things we will go over before entering the water. We'll go over the fly rod, reel, line & leaders as well as popular fly-fishing knots. Some of the popular flies we use and some stillwater entomology.  Of course we'll show you basic casting instruction and fly retrieval.  And when we get on the water, we'll go over stillwater techniques and tactics, how to read a lake and popular methods used to catch fish.  If you're new to stillwater fly-fishing but an experienced stream fisherman, we'll tailor make the school to meet your needs.

For Float Tube / Pontoon Boat Newbies

When we get to the lake, we'll show you how to set up a 'toon or tube, fill it with air and what important tools you'll need. When we get to the water, we'll go over entering and exiting the lake, as well as propulsion with the fins and casting the fly rod from the boat.

For Experienced Stillwater Fly-Anglers

We'll get right to the fishing and try to answer any questions you may have while on the water.  Our concentration will be on getting you into fish and having a good time.

Choose Your Lake

Muir is located about 30 minutes west of Edmonton.  Thanks to aeration, this lake was stocked with Rainbow Trout in May 2003.  Muir Lake is an enhanced fishery project and includes and education center explaining simple life forms and how trout feed on them as well as future plans for a a casting platform.  The regulations at Muir are unique and put in place to give anglers high catch rates and a good chance at catching a trophy sized trout.  As of May 2008, Muir Lake has been stocked with triploid rainbow trout that will grow to a very large size in short order.  For more information and to view the Muir Lake Project video, click here.

Hasse is one of Edmonton's most popular pothole lakes.  A Provincial Park located about 30 minutes west of Edmonton, this lake is stocked every spring with small Rainbow Trout.  Fish up to ten pounds have been recorded from this lake

Spring lake is located about 30 minutes west of Edmonton and was my personal favorite however Perch have become numerous in this lake recently.  This lake is home to the Edmonton Trout Club and has an aeration system on it during the winter months.  Rainbow trout are stocked here every spring and there are some real lunkers here with reports of ten plus pounds.

Star Lake is located about 40 minutes west of Edmonton and is one of my favorite lakes.  This lake is home to some larger Rainbows but is not known for high catch rates.  If you're looking for a challenge and a chance at at a nice trophy trout, then this lake is for you.
